Tech Support

After another night in a queen bed, we set out to find the Verizon store to change our service from Sprint. I had my list at the ready. First the phones, then the Sears appliance store for a repairman to come out to fix my washer, another tale for another day. Then to Walmart to get a new router, a new litter box, a scratching post, and a few groceries. Most important was something for my raw hands.

We have not had a lot of time to explore our surroundings, but I can navigate pretty well without Siri. HeWho cannot. He tells me that the Verizon store is in Murphy on the Blairsville highway. I said that I knew where that was, we passed it on our way here.

Still, he relied on Siri. Had he supplied me the the street address I would have known which way to turn onto Highway 19. The address had NORTH right there in the address. But we turned SOUTH towards Blairsville. We rode on and on and then Siri proclaimed us to be there. We were not, we were out in the middle of nowhere. I told him we probably needed to be on the NORTH highway, but he kept circling back, like the store would suddenly appear. Then he changed to Google and it took us to the county social services building.

Finally, he listened to the voice of reason (me, that is me) and we went onto the NORTH side and drove right to it. There is it was right next to a Walmart, and we passed a Sears appliance store. After the long visit to change our phones, we ate at a little place with hand patted burgers, then accomplished the rest of our chores for the day.

HeWho eagerly opened the router and was all set to get the Wi-Fi set up. It asked for a password, and none was supplied. He was flummoxed. He went on to finish getting the TV in the living room mounted to be ready for the Dish guy today.

This morning he called tech support, on speaker, as usual. This lets me tell him what he doesn't hear clearly. The man did not have a good grasp of our language and HeWho was very impatient, on the edge of insulting. He hung up on the man. Then I had to call Humana and tell them I lost my ID card. That call took over 35 minutes to change our address and order our refills, to be chastised for not ordering sooner and to explain to two different departments that we had moved and that is why I needed to change the address.

I was in a foul mood myself when I finally completed my task. HeWho told me to calm down! At least I didn't hang up on the people I was talking to. I suggested he call the number for tech support again and listened as the nice man (I think it was the same man he hung up on!) walk him through setting it up. The man kept thanking him for his patience and every time HeWho managed to complete a step, the man praised him and told him what a good job he was doing. I had to remove myself from the room to laugh.

We have Wi-Fi, and TV! We still have a mountain of boxes on the porch that fell over after HeWho was digging around and I still do not have MY BED!!

Don't the routers come with a password on a sticker on the router? Ours did. Well, at least you have entertainment but the bed first would have been nice. I'm not surprised they lost the legs. Unfortunate that they had you over a barrel being in possession of your stuff forcing you to pay an extra $4,000 was it? I would definitely file a complaint with everyone I could think of for making you pay for the expenses incurred by their mishandling.

Well, on the bright side, you have internet and TV! Those things make not having your bed a bit more tolerable. I think it's incredible how the moving company was so irresponsible. The company must not be affected by customer reviews. Too bad.

So many things to do, it is frustrating trying to talk to someone who doesn't fully understand our language.

Ellen, yes they do usually have a passcode on the box, but this one did not. I know because I went over the entire box and unit with a magnifying glass. Got it at Walmart, that sticker cold be on a child's finger somewhere, or maybe the cashier who took the theft device off the box. You better believe I am not done with the moving company. I ordered new legs today, but we can't seem to find that mattress support piece that locks on the foot of the bed. I will keep looking, but we can set the bed up with the legs. The bed is very heavy, which is one of the reasons we hired movers. Pure fury should energize me enough to get that bed in the bedroom!

Carol, I will be creating a new blog when I have some uninterrupted hour or two and link it to this one. I fully intend to keep writing. I have working on a book on and off for several years. I did publish one, "Letters To Gavin" written in the voice of a dog. Gavin is my grandson and it was for him, a labor of love.

RunNRose, It is nice to have TV and wifi, but I really want my bed!

Jo-Anne, The language comprehension is definitely a problem. I always tell them to speak slowly and I can usually work out what they are trying to say. HeWho has the hearing issue and the impatience of an old man. This is why he will usually put the call on speaker, so I can tell him what they say.

I don't understand what you are doing. I ask a grandchild to help me. Thank god they will outlive me.

With phone and internet service you will be able to do anything! Keep tackling those tasks a bit at a time. You will, one day, be all settled in. We are enjoying your tales of this mammoth move. I cannot be easy, but you are keeping your good humor, or at least it's there in your writing.

my guy also would never listen to me when his galpal sweetie was directing him. Even when she told himt to turn left, and I pointed to the restaurant we were looking for ahead on our RIGHT!

I know you are busy and will be for a while. Wishing you the very best at your new place on a mountain. Hope you get your bed back soon. You have dealt with enough. Thought you had left the aggravation in St. Louis.

No idea how far you are from Blairsville, GA, but if you ever get down that way, there's a great quilt shop in town.

Joanne, I wasn't about to attempt anything techy! I call my son for that!

dkzody, My good humor has been challenged a lot lately!

Kathy G, the lack of storage space is making it hard to get through the mountain of boxes.

Linda, Aggravation seems to follow me!

Amanda, I am quite close to Blairsville. We have been there several times to Walmart. A quilt shop will have to wait until I sort all these boxes!!
