Not Feeling It

Haven't really felt like sharing this week. Someone referred to my blog as a soap opera and I have been digesting that and rethinking things.

Lately, all I seem to write about is puppy love, with some HeWho antics. I started this blog as an exercise in writing. And, just so you know, I have been working on a writing project that is still in it's infancy. But, the rather snide comment is bothering me more than I thought it would or should. I am pretty thick skinned for the most part.

If you don't care to read what I write, well, you certainly don't have to. The only opinions I really care about are those of my family and close friends. I grew up trying to gain my parents approval and now find that I want the approval of my children. My husband's approval is a given. He is easy, because he loves me and I love him. I am free to poke fun at him to my heart's content, but I would never do so without his consent. This is a good thing, since he can annoy me more than anyone in the world

So, why do I even care? I care because I like to consider other perceptions, as it may be useful. I just don't understand the motivation behind the criticism. I wonder if it was meant to be constructive or if it was meant to simply annoy me. If it was meant to annoy me, it didn't work. It just made me stop and think. I am leaning in that direction.

Hi, Kathy. I don't know the source of the criticism, but no matter. Criticism is never helpful, and the folks who dispense it are self appointed gendarmes. Writing police, I believe in you case. You can take it, or you can tell the criticizer, back off. I used to be the former. Now I'm the latter. The first time is tough; it get's easier and easier to be the old woman in the red coat and hat. Stand up, move forward and onward. You go, woman.

Hi Kathy I only found your blog a few months ago. I love your writing and the antics that go on. I love your humour and am happy you have a great way of sharing your life. I wish more people could see the humorous side of life and share it. Things are too stuffy on a lot of blogs. Refreshing! I see how someone could see it as a soap opera, but in a good way sort of way. Love keep it coming.

Whoever said that, was RUDE! You write what you want. My goodness. You have my support, just don't stop.

I'm always excited to see that you have a new post. Don't change a thing! If people don't like your subject matter, they don't have to read it.

I have a commenter who comes close to stepping over the line between good-natured joshing and blatant condescension. That's the thing with print. You don't have any visual/auditory clues for the subtle nuances, to decipher what people REALLY mean. I hope my own sarcasm has not unintentionally upset someone.

AND...soap operas have big audiences. I can see a positive spin there...

Someone conducted a survey on her blog recently and some troll wrote that he thought she should write less about her disability because "it's a downer." People can just be garbage, that's all! When someone is nasty in comments, I just stop reading their blog and eventually they stop reading mine (hopefully!). It did take about a year to shake one nasty person but finally she gave up and went away.

Bah, humbug, to that detractor. I love your stories and always look forward to an update. When days go by and I don't see an update to your blog, I wonder what is happening in your life. Maybe you have been sick, maybe the internet has gone down, maybe you are on a trip...I'm always curious as to what you are doing there at the RV park. I share your stories with my husband. We chuckle at how you have to take care of so much and deal with such crazy people. My heart broke when you lost your dad and then your doggie. It was just heartbreaking.

You are one of my favorites and I hope you keep writing.

How incredibly thoughtless!
It's YOUR blog, and you should be able to write what you want w/o some grumble-butt stirring up trouble. Don't stop!

The days I don't find a new blog from you are NOT good days. I love the stories of He Who (so much like the one I have!), the fur kids, the Grandkid, and most of all I enjoy the stories of your park and the people who visit you. You are an excellent writer who makes me feel like I was there!

I worry with you, sorrow with you, and most of all I shake my head as I laugh with you. Keep up the good work!

Awwwww....I guess because I have been reading your blog for so long and feel like you are a part of my blogging family, I felt immediately protective of you. Aren't all of our lives soap opera's anyway? Anyone that gets to peek into our lives should feel lucky. There aren't many people who are willing to lay their personal lives out on the table for everyone to judge and criticize. I'm pretty sure the soap opera comment was meant to be passive aggressively critical, but that's just one opinion. There are too many of us that enjoy reading your blog no matter what form it takes. I look forward to your next post!! :-)

Maybe it wasn't intended as an insult. Your life is an ongoing drama, with characters in the park, and with your sweet babies, and of course HeWho accounts, which we all find very entertaining. I love your blog! Don't over analyze it. That person wouldn't be reading if not interested in soap operas. Write on, kathy!
