Middle Child....Center of the World?

Not the baby and not the oldest, my granddaughter Jada is the middle child. This makes her the center and she asserts her position daily. She is funny and confident and never allows her self to be pushed aside. She will always make sure that she is heard. I would want to say that this is because she is the middle child..... I don't know. I have a child much like this and she is the baby of our family. It is fun to watch the personalities emerge as these little girls grow. Jada is four years old now and is quickly becoming the person she will be. She is going to be a beautiful woman one day and break many hearts. The first one will be her Daddy's. Caution will never be a word used when describing this one. She has no problem claiming what is hers and does so with great gusto.

I love to talk to Jada on the phone. She has the sweetest little rasp to her voice and will talk about whatever is going on in her house. She will giggle and sigh and respond to my questions with lots of details. She is a social butterfly, my little Jada. She likes the role of big sister.... in brief intervals. She would rather be doing what her big sister is doing, though, always striving to keep up with the older kids. She is trying to hold Baby Zara still for a photo here.

While big sister likes watermelons on her dress, Jada wanted butterflies. Gramma tries really hard to please her girls. Nothing brings me as much pleasure as sewing for my girls. I picture them in my mind opening the fat envelope with the slip of cloth it takes to make them happy tucked inside. I am missing them today. The visit was too brief. Gramma needs more kisses and bites of giggly girl flesh. Sweet arms around the neck and whispers of important secrets in my ear. I am holding Miss Jada in my mind today. Today I will start to cut out some lime green fabric with snails and happy worms dancing upon it and Jada in my minds eye..........

Beautiful writing, Kathy. You are right about Jada breaking hearts some day. She is a beautiful child.

Very cute! She is a beauty. I am a middle child and not assertive at all so maybe she's just extra special - knowing that sometimes the middle child gets overlooked at times. We don't fit the "oldest" mode and we don't fit the "youngest" mode.

I'm a middle child of 9! I am certainly assertive - you have to be with that many vying for attention. She is a little beauty, and as you say a heartbreaker. No wonder you are so proud of these grandbabies of yours.

Middle child here as well and I learned to make myself known or get overlooked, shadowed by the first and rendered invisible by the baby.

So I say to Jada...more power to you honey.
