Anonymous

It is hot and humid here. It zaps your energy and as I sit here doing my least favorite chore ........... billing, I find that my patience is at an all time low. Took a little break to see what was going on in the land of blog. I love to interact with others and I don't mind if you don't share my views. It would be a boring place if we all saw the world through the same eyes.

Apparently my last post riled another blogger and they commented. I don't mind that they commented, I just wonder why they did so anonymously. If you have an opinion that you are not willing to put your name on, then perhaps you should just not give voice to it at all. The statement that I should do my homework on my subject matter (WalMart) really annoyed me today. Everything in my post is my opinion and I don't present it as anything but that ............ and I own it. It is not anonymous. So, I suppose I would like to say to all the anonymous folks out there .............. try owning your words. Just my opinion .........

I have to agree kathy - wholeheartedly.

And if Anon had done his homework he would surely know that their employment practices are wayyyyy below that of Target and Costco. And the ability to pop on over to a Target or Costco to get a new job, as Anon implied, just isn't feasible in this economy.

Oh, wait. I already said all of this, haven't I? LOL

Love ya!

Sorry to get you riled up, as that was not my intent. I only wanted to present a more objective view on the topic. As far as the anonymous, I think you might not like who I am, but I enjoy reading your posts and the comments. Indeed, you had an anonymous comment from me very much in support of you around last fall when you had so much trouble with one or two campers who were also commenting anonymously and were mean. My intent was not to be mean, so please accept my apology.

Regarding the content of my comment, I was only puzzled by the abundance of criticism by your other commentators for Walmart, when in reality the grass is equally ungreen at most retailers. This is true for whether we are talking about brands, cleanliness, employee benefits, etc. Economics level the playing field through supply and demand, and it all translates into these problems that are very real in Wally World and other large retailers.

Here is an excerpt from an article supporting my statement. I have cited the source so that you be certain I'm not just making this up.

"In contrast to this image, however, critics say that in terms of wages and benefits, working conditions, sweatshop-style foreign suppliers, and effects on local retail communities, big box Target stores are very much like Wal-Mart, just in a prettier package."

p.s. SkippyMom, I agree that getting a new job involves a little more than "popping on over" to the competition. However, I believe you are implying that there are not any jobs available for Walmart employees at the competition. A quick search shows that there are jobs available at the Wentzville, MO Target which are available to qualified candidates, which in my apparently uninformed opinion does include current Walmart employees.

I know here it's not easy to get a job ANYWHERE even when you go on the online job searches and it says that there are openings. Haven't figured out why they post that they are hiring when in reality, they are just 'fishing to see' what is out there themselves. Of the people I know who do work at Walmart (I've had several parents who do), they are low income with no benifits mainly because they can't afford them. But then the same can be said for those who I know who work at McDonalds, Wendy's, Pilot gas station. Exception Krogers who has a strong workers union.

I absolutely agree with you!

One thing I have noticed about the internet is that often people seem to think that the anonymity that comes with it gives them carte blanche to say anything they want and be rude with how they say it. I'm a pretty opinionated person, but I own mine. People may like it or not like it, but I have the cajones to stand behind my words.

I believe there is A LOT more to it than just how Wal-Mart treats their employees. I work at a school where most of my students live in poverty. Many of the people employed at Wal-Mart lack the resources to just go and get another job at some other store. I'm not saying that's true of all employees there, but it is true for many. Not to mention the fact that they drive all competition to the ground so that they can monopolize the shopping in many communities.

Big difference between Walmart and Target (only one of many)...there is a Walmart in every little town in America, not so Target. It is the giant Walmart who takes over small communities driving all the mom and pop businesses into ground.

Oh and I'm sure you know this Kathy, but you can set your preferences to not accept comments from anonymous. I finally did that because it is a favorite of spammers.

I really don't like anonymous comments, you can't please all the people all the time, we are all allowed to have our own veiws and opinions.
