I Hear Blondes Have More Fun

As my trip approaches and I am packing, getting everything ready to go.... I happened to look into the mirror. What did I see? Gray hair and a whole lot of it! When did this happen?

About two years ago I got tired of coloring my hair. I couldn't remember what color it was anyway. At the first sign of gray in my 30's I started getting my hair colored. I started with a light frosting that got heavier with each treatment. I tried to stop, really I did, but I was addicted.

From frosting I went to a full fledged color change; or should I say several color changes. Then I wanted to stop the madness again. I was convinced to try foiling. I loved the effect and the fact that I didn't have to have it done nearly as often. The cost was more, but I convinced myself that I was worth it. And, not having to have it done as often was cheaper in the long run, right?

Then we bought a campground. Now I had a problem. Money? No. Time, I could not afford the time. I suffered through the summer. I couldn't even find someone who could cut it the way I wanted, so color was the least of my worries.

On a midnight run to WalMart for pool supplies I meandered down the hair color aisle. So many choices........what to pick? Well, I think I have tried most variations of brown and blonde and for a short time I was a red head. I was now addicted to coloring my hair myself. Every few weeks I would choose a new box with lovely hair on a lovely model. It never turned out like I imagined it would and my habit was getting to be expensive and way out of control.

Intervention happened when my scalp became extremely itchy and I was literally scratching my hair out. I didn't have that much to start with! I went cold turkey! It was hard looking in the mirror and seeing those roots growing longer and longer. Every time I would get a hair cut more and more of the fake color would drop to the floor, until finally it was all gone. It has been color free for about 6 months.

Not anymore. The gray was kind of on the underside of my hair and as long as I didn't try to pull it up near my temples it was mostly hidden. But realization has hit and I am not as young as I used to be. Seems to have really gotten a lot more gray overnight!
Here I am. Good friend Deb is responsible for this. She added two more colors to my hair with a foiling. We left the gray, just enhanced it! All for the cost of two boxes of hair color! Do you think she knows that she has restarted my addiction? I won't tell if you don't!

It looks great. I am addicted too. I hate my natural hair color and gray is even worse. I say go for it. If you like it and it makes you feel good about yourself then what is the harm.

You look maaarvelous! Your hair is so shiny and such a nice color.
I dyed my hair from when I was in high school until I was in my late 50's; because I wear my hair short, it seemed like I was coloring it every other week...so finally I just let it grow out. Let me tell you, it was a shock to be totally gray! I still linger at at the hairdye shelves, LOL.
Enjoy your new do, it looks great!

It looks so nice and healthy! Beautiful and appropriate. I hope to be one of those women that can grow old gracefully. I haven't yet noticed a gray hair yet, though. My husband has them. I am starting to see laugh lines... but that's just a sign of a happy life isn't it?

OMG, Kathy... you're a freaking bombshell!

I used to have really pretty shiny hair. Now I got bupkiss. You know my hair story... But because of my situation, I 've decided to let my silvery white hair grow in and eventually cut all the brunette off. I'll be going super short, but that's cool. I'm looking forward to short hair again. I just hope it all comes back in - fuller too. But that may be too much to hope for. Any hair at all at this point would be nice. I wonder if I'll look like Jaime Lee Curtis or the Crypt Keeper. Only time will tell....

I started to go gray a few years ago and didn't care. Whatever - it is like wrinkles [I like to call them my smile lines, which I think they are!] it is just what comes with age, I think.

However, in honor of a fellow blogger who has CF [and the most gorgeous red hair] I decided to dye my hair RED RED! LOL - and I have to say - loving it!

I startle myself looking in the mirror sometimes because I am naturally a gray headed blond - but Dad had red hair and this color took right away - it is really fun to change it up.

Your hair looks fabulous - so shiny and healthy! I love it. I hope you have a great trip.

I hate gray hair! People used to say that they liked my salt and pepper look. I didn't mind when I still had pepper! LOL!

First of all, you have gorgeous hair! I am so jealous! You have a LOT of it, too! Second of all, how do you "enhance" the gray? What the heck is that all about? Hmmmm. Thirdly, I have to laugh because I'm behind on reading the blogs I follow. I JUST posted on my blog tonight, "DO BLONDES REALLY HAVE MORE FUN?" How funny is that? Great minds think alike! LOL!

Wow Kathy, I think you look gorgeous. I am getting greyer all the time, but at 66, I figure I am allowed to be. I still have quite a bit of colour in my hair, & cannot really be bothered with colouring it. Cant afford to have it done professionaly.
Go Kathy!

Ah, well. Might as well wish for the moon, I guess.

I have been reading through some more of your posts and I must say, you really do know how to share. I will be responding in other places. Now, you've done it! I'm here to stay. You can't get rid of me, now that I've found you.
