Crows

Lately I have been finding apples in the oddest places. They have been scattered all over the park. In the pool area, in the sites and even right outside the bathrooms. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what was going on. It seemed like a prank someone might be playing on me. I carefully watched for signs of my prankster. I would look very early in the morning to see if anyone was up and about with apples to spread. The men in the park leave quite early and the children don't wake up til later and I see them out playing.....not with apples. When they want an apple they ask me and are always told to help themselves.

I was out pulling weeds and happened to see this trio of crows under the apple tree.

They were just hanging out and I figured they were eating the apples that had fallen to the ground.

I almost missed this shot as one of the crows pulled a limb down to grab an apple. I tried, but couldn't get a clear shot of them in the top of the tree.....grabbing apples and flying away to drop them! These are my pranksters....three crows!

This made me think of that nursery rhyme about black birds, but there were only two of them. The third one must be a lucky charm or something lol. I used to have deer that would drop tomatoes all over much the same way. I didn't mind the thought of feeding the deer, but I was a bit frustrated that they were wasting my food rather than eating it. Now we have Lucy *sigh* that dog flattened my zucchini plants and ate all my peppers. I suppose it's ok, at least she's not wasting them. So are you going to shoo the birds away or keep them for entertainment purposes, since they seem to be playing a neat little game with you?

Oh they can be such a nuisance. Every fall & winter we have to deal with them. They are so messy and noisy, especially when they travel in bunches. Sometimes we have 8 to 10 of them in out backyard.

Mystery solved! I couldn't figure out why my neighbor had so many crows in their yard. Now I know it is because they have some apple trees. Reading your blog is not only entertaining, but educational as well!

Amazing! I knew crows were smart birds, but I had no idea they could go to such lengths.

At least they're not flinging them at your house! LOL! That is too funny!

Reminds me of the story about the guy with the car wash. He had installed new machines that take the money. He couldn't figure out where he money was going. He accused the installer of coming back and taking the money. I can't remember how they came to the bottom of it, I think they installed cameras. It turned out that birds were able to pick the quarters out of the machines with their beaks. They would carry the quarters away. He found over $3,000 in quarters on the roof of his car wash! LOL! They also found quarters all over the field, in the bushes and trees. THe birds were attracted to the "shiny" coins!

So funny. I know people consider crows pests, but they are one of my favorite birds. At least you found the culprits. LOL

Great detective work! Agatha Christie would use you as the prototype of her next hero/heroine. And you actually have photographic proof! Nice!

This is so funny and strange because we have these huge crows that keep hanging out in our front yard this year-they're almost scary they're so big! Thanks for the funny story about your twins on their 18th. Teenager didn't win with his ticket but he brought it home so I could put it in his scrapbook-he knows me so well!
