He Who Has A Birthday

Just in case you are reading me for the very first time and may be wondering ........... he who is my husband. Yesterday was his birthday. He is 58 and I have been in his life for 36 of those birthdays ............

Am I the only one in my age group experiencing difficulty in finding something unique to gift their mates? When we were younger, just establishing our union, it was pretty easy to come up with an idea for a gift. Things were needed and little was left for luxuries. But, you reach a certain age and you have everything. So ....... you resort to gifting things that aren't really personal. Things that are really for all the people in the household to use and enjoy. He who gets gifts for his wife has been doing this for years, so I suppose I shouldn't feel guilty for doing the same. We needed a new TV and that is what he got. I suppose the real gift was letting him go on the shopping trip and choose it. And ......... I must say that I am enjoying the gift myself.

Okay, I did buy some things that only he will use ............ just didn't think he would need to use them today. It snowed last night and he is wearing his long underwear today. Happy Birthday to He Who!

after so many years together we have freed each other from having to buy birthday presents. I buy my own if I see something I want. he just doesn't care.

I'm with you...it's hard to buy for Hubby (and I suspect he feels the same way about me).

Gift certificates for social activities are always good, or something edible. Or a new TV :-)

Happy Birthday to He Who! A new TV sounds like a great gift. My hubby and I don't exchange gifts at all. Not for birthdays, anniversary, or Christmas. We stopped years ago trying find the perfect gift.

I tried calling He Who Hates Talking On The Phone and he didn't answer. I bet he didn't check his messages either.

Happy Birthday to he who is 58! Hope you all have wonderful, quiet day and enjoy your TV.

We usually go the food route as a gift for our birthdays - in lieu of presents. Something extravagant - like, this year Pooldad has his 55 birthday, so he picked crabs, which aren't cheap. $220/bushel.

Come to think of it I might want a TV instead. :)

Happy Birthday to him!

I think it's okay to have reached the point where you've run out of personal gifts to give. After all, at some point you run out of room just to put the stuff...I would think a tv is a fantastic present.

I have a birthday next month and have already mentioned what I'd like...my friends and family to get together and provide the labor to finish painting my living room (and kitchen and hallway-it's a very open floor plan so there's no real stopping point). I figured it was a win-win. I don't have to find a place to put whatever gifts I'm given and no one has to really spend any money, not to mention I'd get the room painted!

We kind of do the same thing or we just plain tell each other what to get. Makes life easier and after being together for 26 years...your past all that other stuff. LOL.

Um...you forgot to mention the WHOLE birthday present!!!

Yep--a new TV (huge thing!) for the living room

...which allowed for the other semi-huge one to go to the bedroom where you can change the channel and sound from the bed now!!!

AND the most important of all--the bedroom TV went to the office where HeWho and HubbyG will enjoy much time bowling, playing tennis, pingpong, rowing, fencing and other fund activities on HubbyG's Christmas Xbox!!!! (and sometimes their spouses play too....) good times!!!

HubbyG and I just go out to dinner...

I love buying hubby gifts, but I'm with you in that it can be so hard to find something for him.
When all else fails, I let him pick his own gift out.
Happy birthday to he who!

Many Happy Returns to He Who! We got to the stage of 'something for everyone' too, at some point. Gom was very good at finding something unique -usually for my birthday.
He was always thrilled to recieve chocolate!

Happy Birthday to he who! I have the same problem with my hubby. We have almost just quit with the presents. Trying to think about downsizing, we just are not purchasing anything that will be sold or given away in 1.5 years.

Hi Kathy...I just wanted to jump in here and say I love your blog. We have only camped at state parks, but after being in customer service for 25 years, I love to read your stories. Happy birthday to your husband and we also have everything we need. We have dropped birthday and Christmas presents.

We have reached a point where we don't buy gifts on birthdays but rather whenever we find just the right thing the other would like. Or, we buy an experience--trip, adventure, that sort of thing. And, I hate having anyone buy me something because it's usually something I don't want.
