59 Years

As I sit here in this 59 year old body, I realize that I have only one year left in this decade of my life. 60 sounds a lot older than 59, doesn't it? I was not bothered when I hit other milestones. I embraced 30. I loved being 30 something. The 40's seemed to fly by, filled with grandchildren arriving. Then 50 came along and we started to consider "the rest of our lives" and bought a campground. Which proves that one is never too old to learn ........

What do I want to do in my 60's? This is the year to plan. Next year is the year to put my plan in motion. I can start today.

In the meantime, I woke to the sounds of thunder this morning. I got rain for my birthday! The temperature dropped and it is glorious outside. Everything has been washed clean by the rain. My gardens are happy and the pool ............. is still green. Lighter, but still green.

Another $200 was dumped into the murky depths yesterday. The Green To Clean company is sending more chemicals free. It was guaranteed to work. So was the new stuff he got at a pool supplier yesterday when he bought new sand for the filters.

The robot is sucking up green stuff and we are cleaning the filter in it every few hours. I have perfected the process. He who is in charge of the pool would clean the filter bag by draping it over the hydrant and spraying it with water. Wasted a lot of water and made a huge mess. And we all know how I feel about waste.

I prefer the bucket method. We have lots of buckets from the chlorine. Fill the bucket, rinse the filter, then pick the bucket up and walk to a garden or a tree, empty the water where it can do some good and repeat until the water is clear. He will use the bucket, but just dumps the water right next to the hydrant and it runs under the pavilion and causes weeds to grow. His methods are wasteful and create yet another problem to deal with. Now, I just need to think of a way to make him think it was his idea all along ........

Now I am going to stroll through my park, coffee in hand as the light drizzle graces my head with its cool comfort.

RAIN? I'm SO envious. We are still baking. The fields are brown. Some of the trees, too.

Happy Birthday!

We had rain last night too. It was supposed to last all day but didn't.

Yeah for rain!
I'm with you on the wasting of water. Every time we get ready to dump the melted ice water out of the coolers, I make hubby and/or sons take it to one of the gardens to water it with.
Oh and Happy Birthday! Dance in the rain, and enjoy the gift God gave you!

Happy birthday to you, and many more. Life is never dull with husbands like ours. I like how you think...make him think it's his idea :)

Happy Birthday!! Our birthdays must be very close together...mine just passed on July 23. You do have me beat in age by 10 years...of course once you get past the age of 40 it's all downhill from there...lol

Happy Birthday to you! I hope the next year is a great end to the decade and you enter yours 60s in style.

I've taken to doing my hand-wash dishes in a bucket, rinsing them in a second bucket, then dumping both buckets outside. I've given up on keeping the grass alive and concentrating on the plants and trees.

I felt the same way about the 30s, 40s, and 50s. And the 60s! (I'm 62 now.) the 60s is definitely the downhill slope. so many realities to adjust to and accept. but then you go on doing the best you can do, getting the most out of life.

Happy Happy Birthday! Today is my granddaughter's birthday as well (she's 3). So glad you got rain for your birthday!

I feel the same way as you about the age thing. I really loved turning 40 and 50. (I was pregnant when I turned 30 and it was not a fun moment in time - lol! I was ready to deliver but it didn't happen until nearly a month later.)

I hope you have success with your filter cleaning.

Time's up here. I turn 60 next Friday! Still haven't figured out what to do with the rest of my life. Two years ago I thought I had it all planned out--move to San Francisco after retiring from teaching. Get a job with a non profit, doing good work with good people. It didn't happen and I am back in the house we own in Fresno. No dreams, no plans, just taking one day at a time.

Happy Belated Birthday!

Here's the silver lining of green pool water - no swimmers to contend with! :)

Sounds like you have to train he who lives with you how to clean the pool water! :)

We just filled our pool in this summer. So expensive and I couldn't do the work to keep it clean. With our daughter away during the week it just wasn't getting enough use to make it worth while. Plus my other daughter (and Grandmomma!) worried about the kids.

I hope you have the happiest of birthdays complete with a yummy desert!
