I think everyone can agree that it has been a crazy weather year. One of extremes. Labor Day weekend started with 100 degree weather and overnight dropped into the 70's. I like mild weather. 70 is good. I like cool evenings. Makes for cozy sleeping. So, I was happy that the heat wave broke and was looking forward to getting lots done outside in mild weather. But, it is downright chilly out there. I am not ready to stop wearing flip-flops. I like walking along and hearing the satisfying slap of the shoe on my heel. Open toed slip-on shoes are comfy ..... but not when your toes are cold.
What happened to spring? We jumped right into summer after a wicked cold winter and it now looks as if we are going to by-pass autumn. I am not liking this. Where are my Indian Summer days? I did not vote for this weather!
Now is the time to camp if you like a roaring camp fire. I have been busy making reservations for October. Every body suddenly realizes that camping season is coming to an end and they want to get that last trip in. It is also Octoberfest at the wineries close by. So, I answer a lot of questions as I make these reservations. How far are the wineries? Do we have firewood for sale? Is there taxi service available? ........
The strangest question I have had so far (this year, anyway) is a man who wants to know if my pool will still be open. He has called several times in reference to his reservations and has asked me each time if the pool will be open. I always tell him my standard answer the pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Last time he called he wanted to know if we would keep it open until the end of October ........ no, it would be too costly. He wonders why it would cost anything .... just keep the water in and leave the cover off. He is truly baffled, even though I explain the process of keeping the stability of the water intact for him to get in. But, beyond all that, it is cold outside and will only get colder as the days go by. Even if we have a few warm days, the night temperature drops and the water is very cold. Why don't we heat it? I finally just said because we don't want to. I give up. He seemed to accept that answer.
I finally finished my memory garden for my friend, Paul. I even managed to plant some young maples yesterday. No pictures, though. It is raining ........ and my toes are cold!

Since you know what Pooldad does for a living we COMPLETELY understand. It amazes me the people here that keep their pools open past Labor Day AND heat them through the winter - but hardly use them. The cost is astronomical [electricity] but to have someone maintain them too??? Well, I guess it has managed to keep my husband in a job year round for 35 years so they can go right ahead. hee hee
It is chilly cold her too. Wow. It's like <---there was summer and BOOM------>her comes fall, overnight. I am loving it tho'. It's sweater time.
Hope it gets quieter for you tho'.
you could just let it freeze and have an ice skating rink...smiles. ha. oh so sad, i love autumn and want it to stay around a long time!
What a great thing planting a mamory garden for Paul ~ So special! I know the weather is crazy hot & cold ~ drought or flood ~ it doesn't make sense does it!
Have fun
Donna
some people are just amazing - and not in a good way. lol! i just can't imagine. hehehe!
glad that it's cooling off some but i don't think i'm ready to go from a/c directly to heat. i'm hoping for just a while to enjoy the fall crisp air.
No real spring here either and we jumped straight to August. Broke all kinds of records for high temps and drought. Still getting in the 90s but mornings and evenings are nice.
I also LOVE flip flops and will purposely make the slappy sound when I walk much to my daughers disapproval. :-)
Sigh. Flip flops were wonderful. I'm back in wool socks for the last two weeks, and the wooly bear caterpillar doesn't look hopeful about winter. Keep the campfires blazing.
We are having some really warm weather so I went out this morning with hubby to buy new thongs why because Leo lost hubbys and yesterday I let Natasha wear mine home and I know I will not get them back........
during the warmer months I live in them but not when it is colder as I do not like cold toes......either...
I long for the days when flip-flops were simply called thongs.
It HAS been crazy weather! Extremely hot one week, and cool the next! I don't mind the cool nights and warm days, but when it starts to be cool days, too, when, then, it's time to head south!
In my dealings with the public, I've noticed a few things that seem to be consistent. I won't mention the less-nice things but rather the thing that is applicable to your entry.
Some people are self-centered. It's all about them. That sounds like that guy.
What Pat said!
I hate the cold too. I want more indian summer as well! Why would anyone want to swim during this time of the year outside...when it is not even hot out?
