Does Your Face Hurt?

My dad has been known to say strange things. When I was a little girl he would extend his hand and say, "Shake the hand that shook the hand of Buffalo Bill." I thought he knew Buffalo Bill. Hey, I was a kid. I was pretty gullible, too. There were lots of "daddyisms". If you sat on a table, he would proclaim that tables were made for glasses, not for asses. That one was hilarious to an eight year old. Had the extra bonus of a bad word.

He will be 80 soon and still says some of the very same things. If we had rolls at dinner he would hold the basket aloft and ask if you wanted a roll........ "Want a roll?" yes "Get in the floor." He would crack himself up while explaining that if you wanted to roll around, you should get in the floor. It was funny the first ten times or so. Another favorite was "Does your face hurt?" no "Well, it's killing me!!!!" If you are over the age of ten it is just not that funny. But, Daddy likes to entertain himself.

Should he show up today with his question the answer would be yes. My face hurts. Poison ivy, oak, whatever; I am extremely allergic to it. I am miserable. It itches and is hot and tender to the touch. Someone told me to apply Pepto Bismol. I will try just about anything to find some relief. Now it is tight in addition to the itching and hurting. I am in the pink!!

Why am I smiling? I have nothing to smile about. My torso is also a mass of itching rash and I apparently sat in it. I am pink all over. The relief is temporary, though. Feels good as you apply it, then the skins tightens as it dries, and then the sensation of a thousand ants biting you begins. I won't be recommending this remedy. I will stick to the tried and true Caladryl, which now comes in a clear solution. I noticed some new outbreaks on my legs this morning. I am making a conscious effort not to scratch them. If I rub the pad of my finger over the bumps it feels kind of like braille. It is difficult to wear my glasses with this stuff on my nose and under my eyes, so I may need to learn braille ...........

Yes, Daddy, My face hurts and none of my cheeks are smiling. Feel free to have a good chuckle at my expense.

Oh you poor thing! I had to laugh because the first thing I said when I read the title of your post is, "It's killing me!" Too funny! I sure hope you feel better soon!

Oh sweetheart my sympathies. I thought one ankle sucked, but this is extreme. Amy had a hint on my blog about a medication she took for a rash that she had while pregnant - I will go back and find it - it might help this too, she says it is similar.
Take care and take an oatmeal bath if you can handle it. :) Hugs!

Poor you! Try applying vinegar compresses. It only works for a little while, but the temporary relief is wonderful.

OUCH! That does look painful :o( I wish I had some words of wisdom for you but all I have is to add Benadryl to the lotion. Well I mean take some benadryl and rub the lotion on the skin. Well....that sounds like a movie....'it buts the lotion on the skin'........But benadryl does make a lotion for itching ;o)

Aveeno sells oatmeal bath stuff...it's worth a try - I have always had good luck with Aveeno. Feel better soon. Take benadryl & nap to get you through it!

Oh you poor thing! I am terribly allergic to it (poison ivy) and learned to spot it a mile away. I used to get covered with it as a kid but never really got it on my face. My BIL had it so bad that he finally had to get steroids to get it to clear up. Wish I had a remedy for you but mine goes more along the lines of not getting it in the first place.

Bummer! Wow, that stuff looks awful. Hope you feel better soon.

I think we all had a "Daddy" in the family - in my case my Grandpa.

Oh, I am so sorry! I am highly allergic to it myself and I avoid it like the plague.

If it makes you feel better, once, when my sister and I were very young, we were out walking with my mom in the woods. My mom was forever having to use the bathroom and on this particular day, since it was only us there, she decided to go out in the woods. No amount of dissuading by my sister or I ever worked. Well, on that day, she decided to wipe with a leaf. Yep! It was one of those leaves! Talk about miserable -- not just for her, but for anyone who lived with her as well. I guess my point in telling the story is that it could always be worse! Hang in there!

Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about your allergy to whatever it was! Looks 100% miserable. But I laughed so hard at your daddyisms.. especially the one about the table. That one is going to get used around here, you can count on that! Hope your situation improves soon.

Well, you appear to have kept your sense of humor...

How hideous. At least this is the time of the summer season where things are slowing down a bit, right? Or are ya'll gearing up for a big Labor Day crowd? I'll send happy thoughts your way; maybe you'll wake up much improved!
