Blurry Vision

This past week was full of appointments .... and rain. I already told you about the trip to the cardiologist and the wet state of my affairs.

The very next day we had an appointment with the optometrist. Since it has rained every single day, I located another umbrella and dispatched HeWho to stash it in the car, since I would not be sharing mine ever again with him.

The morning was bright and sunny. The soggy ground and the tall grass telling the tale of much rain. Of course, as soon as we were on our way the skies opened and rain was falling in heavy sheets. I saw some cars that were actually pulled off on the side of the interstate waiting for respite. We could only go 45 mph. The rain finally let up and the sky was clear as we made our way to the office.

I have a pair of rimless glasses and I was determined to get new frames that could easily be seen when I laid them down. The rimless ones seem to just disappear and I need glasses to find my glasses. I don't want contacts, never liking anything on my eyeball anyway. I had two pair at my disposal until Mr. BoJangles made his appearance in our lives. He seemed to like my glasses and he customized both sets. I gave up trying to fix one pair, as it would fall apart at the most inopportune times. The pair I am currently wearing have to donned gingerly, lest I stab my face or ear with the sharp point left from his chewing.

I am looking forward to the arrival of the new glasses. I knew my prescription was no longer strong enough as I was having trouble seeing, even with the glasses. Same for HeWho totally lost his glasses. I asked Bo if he knew anything about the missing glasses, but he just looked at me and tilted his cute little head. I often wonder what secrets lurk in that head of his. None of the other canines have ever shown interest in our eyewear. I think they will show up when we least expect them to.

I was seen first and had already finished my transaction for my two pair of glasses when HeWho was seated there. He chose one frame for his two pair. The man has no sense of adventure! I got two entirely different frames, one red, one blue. I can now match my mood to my glasses! Well, I can one day next week when they get here.

I knew my vision had become quite blurry, but I found out that I have cataracts. My first thought was that I can't possibly have cataracts, I am not old enough! But, of course I am! They are already at stage 3 and I am seeing surgery in my future when things slow down here. No wonder I have blurry vision! That will be my excuse for any mistakes you might notice in this forum!

If you are fortunate, the cataract surgery might end your need for glasses. I had the surgery at 75. Now only need glasses to read. Our daughter had cataract surgery at 56. Severe astigmatism had caused her to wear thick glasses since she was only 7 years old. Now, she needs no glasses. It did cost her, but she was happy to pay to be free. May you have a good week!

I need to get new glasses myself but have been putting it off mostly because our eye insurance keeps changing yearly and I cannot go to the eye doctor I had been for years. Last years insurance only had one place that took our insurance and it was 35 minutes away. Never did make an appointment because of Covid. Different insurance this year so hopefully I can go to someone closer.

I know that cataracts are inconvenient, but at the end you can choose to upgrade to a lens that will make you glasses free!

I have cataract surgery in my future too, but mine are just beginning and so far I haven't noticed much change in my vision. I also have blue and red (well dark pink) glasses, the blue is for reading and computer, the red/pink is bifocal and for outside stuff like shopping, watering and for watching TV. You'll have to put your new ones where Bojangles can't reach them. Or perhaps always in their cases and always in the same spot so they are never lost?

I wonder if Bo will prefer the taste of the blue glasses, or the red glasses...

Bill is a differnt man after cataract surgery. Well, not THAT different. His vision is so much better. Next, knee replacement. I'll let you know.

I had my eyes examined earlier this year. for the past year I really haven't needed my cheaters to read (lost my actual glass during the flood in 2017 and never replaced them). told the eye doc, I think my eyesight has improved. he confirmed that yes indeed it had improved but that was because I was developing cataracts. apparently cataracts improve your vision before they totally trash it. he advised me to see an opthamologist this fall for cataract surgery end of the year.

I have cataracts as well. I have to renew my driver's licence in March 2022 and it's a toss-up - should I just get my surgery or get new expensive bifocals, and then turn around a year later to get the surgery. I'm leaning toward getting the surgery once and for all. My blurry vision is making it hard to watch TV, read, drive at night.

Such fun

My cataracts went from "Oh, you have cataracts" to I could hardly see the speed limit signs and my night vision was horrible in 6 months flat. Yikes! My anxiety about the procedure was far and away the worst part of the whole thing. I only need correction for reading now; I can see distance just fine. Which is really weird for somebody who got glasses for 1st grade because, well, I could see the chalk board, I just couldn't see anything on it!
