Cheapskate, Me?

I have seen it all now. Channel surfing, I came upon a show called "Extreme Cheapskates" on TLC. My kids poke fun at me for my cheap ways. They all need to watch an episode of this show.

By the standards of the people portrayed on this show, I am a big spender. I am watching a strange man wash his clothes and his dishes in his hot tub. Oh, almost forgot, he washes himself in there, too. A woman just had her husband pull her tooth!! She says the pain only lasts awhile, but the savings lasts forever. The dentist only wanted $185, for heaven sakes. Now I think I have a tooth ache. The hot tub man has a clothesline in his car ......

Another man keeps his toilet paper under lock and key and doles out 10 squares for his wife's daily use.

Yeah, I am not a cheapskate after all!

I usually see the dumpster divers who make a meal for their unsuspecting friends.

I couldn't watch that tooth episode.

Where does cheap end and controlling begin?

I stumbled across this the other week too, I watched an airline attendant take the left over nuts home from the packets that were open....grosssssss

I saw the show one time. When a lady bought cat food tuna to serve to her friends I knew I'd never watch it again.

That show takes frugal to a new level. I couldn't watch more than a few minutes.

Considering what dentists charge in this part of the world - and it is a helluva lot more than $185 I don't blame the woman. I have insurance and can't rationalize $325 to yank a tooth with no replacement.

But the 10 sheets of toilet paper? That man could kiss my [not quite clean] behind in more ways than one if he tried that with me. There are such a bigger issue occurring there than just denying hygiene products. That's sick.

I am all about saving money, absolutely, but you do have to draw the line between crazy or controlling and being thrifty.

I just saw Kathy G's comment and I have to say - that makes me sick too, but my question is this -

Is canned cat food truly cheaper than human grade tuna fish? I marvel at what we pay for canned food for our pets and sometimes I wish we could "eat as well" [no I would never eat it, but really? It isn't cheaper, at least here.]
